This painting was inspired by reading Captain James Cook’s log of his Second Voyage. The three exploratory voyages of Captain James Cook have inspired awe in many lovers of history for he was truly a giant and visionary in global exploration. As a sailor myself, the dangers his crews encountered at sea and the courage it took to face these life threatening perils, have always filled me with great admiration, for I find Cook’s feats of navigation absolutely heroic. . As an artist I was inspired to paint what filled my imagination when I contemplated what it must have been like to sail the H.M.S.
